My 6'9" junior co-resident asked me for advice on how I reduced hips. I am 5'1. On a good day.
There are many different ways to reduce hips. Good sedation is absolutely paramount.
For a posterior hip dislocation, I get up on the gurney with the patient with one foot on either side of the affected hip. I hook my forearms behind the patient's knee so that the tibia is against my chest. I squat and pull up and forward using my core, quads and back to unhinge the femoral head from behind the acetabulum. After the reduction of the femoral head, the leg is extended and placed into a knee immobilizer.
Any other pointers or techniques?
The captain Morgan technique was always the most energy efficient for me: you use your femur as a fulcrum rather than sheer squat/core strength. You can google to see videos on how to do. You'll never break a sweat ;)
